Scottland FC Sack Norman Mapeza After CAF Champions League Heartbreak as Peter Ndlovu Steps In

After a humiliating departure from the CAF Champions League, Scottland FC have parted ways with head coach Norman Mapeza. Peter Ndlovu, a former star of Mamelodi Sundowns, has been named as the caretaker coach to finish the 2026 season.

The decision is made after the Zimbabwean champions' humiliating loss to Angolan powerhouses Petro de Luanda in the second round of the preliminary stage of Africa's top club championship.

Scottland has reportedly chosen to make changes to its technical staff after a disappointing first-leg outcome, as reported by FARPost. The team lost the match 3-2 on aggregate after taking a comfortable 2-0 lead into the return match in Angola but finally collapsed after losing 3-0.

Scottland had spent a lot of time and money bolstering their team for their first participation in the continental tournament, so losing is a huge disappointment. With a roster that included several seasoned players, including stars of the Betway Premiership, the team was expected to contend for a spot in the group stages.

Nevertheless, the club's management is said to be reevaluating its technical strategy after failing to preserve the first-leg advantage.

Ndlovu entrusted vital duty to

Having previously managed the Scottland squad, Ndlovu is now responsible for leading the squad for the rest of the campaign.

The former Zimbabwean international's stellar playing career is well-known, and it was during his time with Mamelodi Sundowns that he became famous. In addition to being a CAF A certified coach, he led Zimbabwe's national team.

Scottland gains a seasoned football figure who is familiar with the inner workings of the club and the expectations around its lofty mission with his arrival.

Ndlovu must immediately focus on boosting morale and preventing the team's domestic aspirations from being derailed by their Champions League setback.

At home, Scottland has likewise had trouble winning trophies, losing the league championship battle and been knocked out of the Chibuku Super Cup.

There is now a lot of pressure on the defending Zimbabwean champions to have a successful season finale, since they still have important league matches to play.

Significant change is signalled by Mapeza's departure.

After being given the responsibility of heading Scottland's ambitious initiative upon his arrival from FC Platinum, Mapeza decides to quit. His and his technical team's departure marks a sea shift for the club's trajectory.

Despite Ndlovu's planned interim leadership, Scottland's upper management should think about its coaching strategies for the future.

The former Sundowns favourite now has the difficult task of restoring the team's stability, reviving its momentum, and ensuring Scottland's continued competitiveness as the 2026 season winds down.
