Kaizer Chiefs striker Khanyisa Mayo has demonstrated his playful personality off the pitch after sharing Halloween-themed pictures and videos on social media, following his return to first-team training after undergoing hernia surgery during the off-season.
The 28-year-old forward, popularly known as "Section 10" among football fans, recently caught the attention of social media users after embracing the Halloween celebrations with an unusual costume inspired by one of horror cinema's most recognisable characters.
On Sunday, November 1, Mayo took to his official Instagram account to share several pictures and videos showing him dressed as Michael Myers, the fictional serial killer and central antagonist of the popular Halloween horror movie franchise.
In the pictures, the Umtata-born footballer wore a black jacket, matching black trousers and the character's familiar white mask. He also completed the frightening appearance by carrying a large fake machete, recreating the look of the notorious horror movie villain.
His longtime partner, Ababalwe Scout, also joined in the Halloween celebrations with her own themed outfit. She was dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, creating an interesting contrast to Mayo's frightening appearance.
The couple's costumes attracted attention online, with the footballer's decision to step into the character of Michael Myers offering supporters a glimpse of his humorous side away from professional football.
Mayo's social media activities come at a time when he is working towards regaining full fitness and strengthening his position in the Kaizer Chiefs squad. Having returned to training at Naturena following his off-season hernia operation, the striker will be hoping to make a positive contribution when competitive action resumes.
The former Cape Town City forward faces competition for attacking positions at the club, with players such as Wandile Duba and Flavio Silva also battling for opportunities in the team's forward line.
While his immediate priority remains returning to peak condition and securing regular playing time, Mayo's Halloween appearance has provided fans with something different to discuss beyond football.
His latest social media post highlights the lighter side of the professional footballer, showing that he can entertain supporters away from the pitch just as much as he hopes to do through his performances on it.
