Nuno Santos Responds to Critics After Sundowns' CAF Champions League Exit

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Nuno Santos has responded to criticism following the club's disappointing elimination from the CAF Champions League, insisting that people do not always understand what happens behind the scenes.

The Brazilians suffered an unexpected setback after being knocked out of Africa's premier club competition by Angolan side Wiliete SC, ending their hopes of competing in the tournament's group stages this season.

The elimination attracted criticism from supporters and football observers, particularly given Sundowns' ambitions and expectations in continental football.

However, Santos believes some of the criticism directed at the club comes from people who are not fully aware of the work being done internally.

Speaking about the reaction to their Champions League exit, the Portuguese midfielder suggested that outsiders should not rush to conclusions without understanding the challenges facing the team.

"Sometimes the people talk too much, without knowing what's happening in the background. The only thing that I can say is that we do our best every day to make Sundowns better," Santos said, as quoted by iDiski Times.

His comments come at a difficult moment for Sundowns, who entered the campaign with expectations of making another strong impression in Africa after their previous continental successes.

The early elimination has placed additional pressure on the technical team and players to respond positively in their remaining competitions.

For Santos, the priority appears to be focusing on the work on the training ground rather than becoming distracted by outside criticism.

Sundowns will now have to redirect their attention towards their domestic commitments while continuing to work on the areas that contributed to their continental disappointment.

The club's supporters will expect a strong response, with the Brazilians still targeting silverware on multiple fronts this season.

Despite the criticism, Santos has made it clear that the players and technical team remain committed to improving the team and delivering better performances.
