Former Bafana Bafana player Cavann Sibeko has shared an amusing story about how former Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United coach Pitso Mosimane once fined a player for eating amagwinya before training.
Sibeko revealed the incident during an interview with KickOff's Locker Room Secrets, where he reflected on some of the unusual experiences and memorable characters he encountered throughout his football career.
The incident reportedly happened during his time at SuperSport United when the team was training at HM Pitje Stadium. According to Sibeko, some players who lived in the Vaal area regularly arrived early because of the long distance they had to travel.
On one occasion, Johannes Mine and Pitso Lekone were among the players who arrived ahead of the training session. They decided to buy amagwinya, tea and mangola from a nearby shop while waiting for the rest of the team.
However, their decision to eat before training attracted the attention of Mosimane, who was approaching the area where they were sitting.
Recalling the moment, Sibeko explained that the players realised the coach was about to catch them enjoying their food.
“Coach Pitso Mosimane uzondlula ngalapho behleli khona,” he recalled.
When Mosimane eventually addressed the squad, he reportedly told the players that he had seen Johannes Mine feeding his teammates amagwinya before training.
The coach then announced the punishment, leaving the players surprised by his reaction.
“I’m going to fine that guy R200,” Mosimane said, according to Sibeko.
“We were all shocked,” Sibeko added while laughing.
Beyond the incident, Sibeko also reflected on the dressing-room atmosphere during his playing days, highlighting the religious traditions, music and humorous personalities that made the environment memorable.
He recalled how some teammates organised prayers and sang church songs, while others contributed to the atmosphere through music and jokes.
