Back
The January transfer window could spark an interesting battle between three European clubs as Brighton & Hove Albion, Barcelona and Lille reportedly compete for the signature of highly rated Estoril defender Jordan Arnolin.
The 18-year-old Portuguese youngster has attracted considerable attention following his impressive development, with all three clubs reportedly monitoring his progress ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, scouts representing Brighton, Barcelona and Lille were present during Estoril's recent encounter against Porto to assess the teenager's performances.
Although Estoril suffered a disappointing 4-0 defeat, the match represented an important milestone in Arnolin's young career as he made his first senior start for the Portuguese side.
Interestingly, the youngster was deployed in an unfamiliar defensive midfield position rather than his usual centre-back role. However, his ability to operate in different defensive positions has reportedly strengthened his appeal among potential suitors.
Barcelona Have Been Monitoring His Development
Barcelona are understood to have followed Arnolin's progress for some time, dating back to his appearances for Portugal's Under-18 national team.
The Catalan giants have continued monitoring his development following his progression to the Under-19 level.
With manager Hansi Flick reportedly interested in strengthening his defensive options, Barcelona could consider bringing in another promising young defender when the January transfer window opens.
The club's recruitment department sees considerable potential in identifying young players who can develop into important first-team contributors.
Brighton and Lille Also Join the Race
However, Barcelona are not alone in their pursuit of the Portuguese prospect.
Brighton have also been tracking Arnolin for some time, with the Premier League club continuing its strategy of identifying talented youngsters before their market value increases.
The Seagulls have established a reputation for recruiting promising players and providing them with opportunities to develop into top-level footballers.
Meanwhile, Lille are also interested in securing his services. The French club's recruitment strategy frequently focuses on young talents with significant development potential, making Arnolin an attractive option.
Estoril Hold Strong Negotiating Position
Despite the growing interest, no formal offers have reportedly been submitted for the defender.
Arnolin recently signed his first professional contract with Estoril, which runs until June 2029. This means the Portuguese club are under no immediate pressure to sell their promising youngster.
According to TEAMtalk, approaches from interested clubs are expected ahead of January.
The coming weeks could therefore become crucial in determining Arnolin's future.
For now, Brighton, Barcelona and Lille remain interested, but the competition for his signature is only beginning.
