Medical Miracle? Orlando Pirates Star Cleared For Bafana Bafana Duty After Knee Nightmare

THALENTE MBATHA RETURNS! PITSO MOSIMANE DELIVERS WELCOME BAFANA BAFANA BOOST AFTER INJURY NIGHTMARE

Bafana Bafana have received a major boost ahead of their upcoming international assignments, with Orlando Pirates midfielder Thalente Mbatha earning a return to the national team setup under head coach Pitso Mosimane.

Mbatha has been included in Mosimane's preliminary squad for South Africa's crucial back-to-back 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Kenya in November.

The midfielder's return comes after an unfortunate injury spell that prevented him from participating in the previous national team camp. His absence was a setback for the national team, considering the important role he has played in South African football.

The 25-year-old was among the players who missed Mosimane's previous selection because of fitness concerns. However, his recovery has now opened the door for another opportunity to represent his country.

According to reports, Mbatha suffered a knee injury on August 10, 2026, which kept him out of action during the opening stages of the 2026/27 campaign.

Orlando Pirates subsequently provided a positive medical update, confirming that the midfielder had returned to full-team training following his rehabilitation.

His inclusion in the latest preliminary squad is therefore a significant development for both the Buccaneers and the national team.

MOSIMANE WELCOMES AN IMPORTANT MIDFIELD OPTION

Mbatha's return gives Mosimane another quality option in the middle of the park as Bafana Bafana prepare for two important encounters against Kenya.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach has already demonstrated his willingness to combine experienced internationals with players who have shown consistency at club level.

With Mbatha available again, competition for places in the national team's midfield is expected to become even stronger.

The Orlando Pirates star will be hoping to make the final squad and convince Mosimane that he deserves an important role in the upcoming fixtures.

CRUCIAL KENYA CLASHES AWAIT BAFANA

South Africa will host Kenya at Orlando Amstel Arena on November 13 before travelling to Nairobi for the return encounter on November 17.

The matches carry significant importance as Bafana look to maintain their impressive start to the 2027 AFCON qualification campaign.

Mosimane's men previously registered victories over Guinea and Eritrea, putting themselves in a strong position in Group D.

With Mbatha returning to the fold, South African supporters will be eager to see whether the talented midfielder can translate his club performances into another impressive international contribution.

His return is undoubtedly encouraging news for Bafana Bafana.
