Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies began their 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League campaign with a 0-0 draw against Egyptian side Masar at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia on Sunday afternoon.
The South African champions had to settle for a point after a closely contested opening fixture, with neither side managing to find the breakthrough.
Sundowns went into the competition hoping to make a strong start as they pursue another successful continental campaign. However, Masar proved difficult opponents, holding the Brazilians to a goalless stalemate on home soil.
The result means Sundowns Ladies have one point from their opening Group Stage fixture, while Masar also opened their campaign with a share of the points.
Although the match ended without goals, securing a point away from home gives the South African side an opportunity to build momentum in their remaining fixtures.
Sundowns will now turn their attention to their next assignment as they look to improve their attacking output and strengthen their position in the group.
The CAF Women’s Champions League remains an important competition for the club, which has established itself as one of the leading forces in African women's football.
With more matches still to come, the goalless draw leaves the group campaign open, and Sundowns will be looking to turn their opening point into a winning result in their next outing.
