Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi made an immediate impact for Al Khaldiya as the Bahrain-based club secured its first victory in the AFC Champions League Two with a comeback win over Al-Wahda FC on Wednesday.
Al Khaldiya recovered from a goal down to claim an important victory, with Maswanganyi playing a role in the turnaround after coming off the bench in the second half.
Al-Wahda initially took control of the contest by breaking the deadlock in the 55th minute, putting Al Khaldiya under pressure as they searched for a response.
However, the introduction of Maswanganyi in the 65th minute changed the momentum of the match.
Just two minutes after his arrival, Al Khaldiya found the equaliser in the 67th minute before scoring again in the 72nd minute to complete the comeback.
The two quick goals turned the contest around and secured Al Khaldiya their first win in the competition.
Although Maswanganyi was not named in the starting lineup, his introduction coincided with a crucial period in the match as his new team produced the response needed to collect maximum points.
Maswanganyi Begins New Chapter Abroad
The victory represents an encouraging start to Maswanganyi's journey with Al Khaldiya following his departure from South African football.
The attacking midfielder previously represented Orlando Pirates, where he became known for his creativity, technical ability and contribution in the final third.
His move to Bahrain offers him an opportunity to continue his development outside South Africa while experiencing a different football environment.
Maswanganyi's appearance against Al-Wahda also provides an early indication of the role he could play in Al Khaldiya's attacking setup.
Coming on when his team was trailing, the former Pirates star witnessed his side score twice within seven minutes to secure a memorable comeback.
For Al Khaldiya, the result provides an important confidence boost as they continue their continental campaign.
For Maswanganyi, it is a positive beginning to life at his new club, with the South African midfielder hoping to establish himself as an important member of the team.
His next challenge will be to turn his substitute appearances into regular starting opportunities as Al Khaldiya pursue further success in the competition.
