Yeye's Bright Start at Mochudi Centre Chiefs Earns Praise as Expectations Rise
South African football legend Reneilwe Letsholonyane is making a positive impression in Botswana, with Mochudi Centre Chiefs expressing satisfaction with the coach's early performances since taking charge of the club.
The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder, popularly known as Yeye, has enjoyed an encouraging start to his coaching journey at the Botswana Premier League outfit. His early achievements have attracted attention, particularly after guiding the team to three consecutive victories across competitions and securing qualification for the African Hero Top 8 semi-finals.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs general manager Owe Mmolawa has praised Letsholonyane's impact, highlighting the renewed energy, direction and competitiveness he has brought to the squad.
“We are pleased with Coach Letsholonyane’s start. He has brought renewed energy, direction and competitiveness to the team. His initial results have been encouraging, including three consecutive victories across competitions and qualification for the African Hero Top 8 semi-finals,” Mmolawa told Soccer Laduma.
The club's positive assessment reflects the progress made under the South African tactician, who joined Mochudi Centre Chiefs in September 2026. His arrival has brought fresh optimism as the team looks to compete for honours and establish greater consistency throughout the campaign.
One of the most significant highlights of Letsholonyane's early tenure was the team's 3-1 victory over Morupule Wanderers, a result that secured its place in the African Hero Top 8 semi-finals. The performance demonstrated the team's attacking potential and strengthened its hopes of challenging for silverware.
However, the former midfielder understands that a promising start is only the beginning. Maintaining consistency, improving performances and delivering results against stronger opposition will be essential if he is to meet the club's expectations.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs have also continued their progress in the Botswana Premier League. Their recent 3-1 victory over Prisons XI on 31 October provided another important boost, taking their points tally to 13 from eight matches and leaving them fourth on the standings, according to reports published on 2 November.
The upcoming fixtures will provide further opportunities for Letsholonyane to demonstrate his coaching ability. Centre Chiefs are scheduled to face BDF XI on 4 November before meeting Sua Flamingoes in the African Hero Top 8 semi-finals on 7 November.
For South African football supporters, Yeye's progress in Botswana is an encouraging development. His transition from an accomplished playing career to coaching is attracting interest, and his early results suggest that he is building a competitive team.
Nevertheless, the real test will be whether Letsholonyane can turn this promising beginning into sustained success. With the club targeting consistency and trophies, expectations will continue to rise as the season unfolds.
For now, Mochudi Centre Chiefs have every reason to be encouraged by their coach's progress, but the next challenge is to convert that promise into silverware.
