Aden McCarthy, a former Kaizer Chiefs defender, continued to shine internationally by aiding Sabah FK in securing a 0-0 draw against Qarabağ FK in the Misli Premier League on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The 22-year-old South African started and played the entire match, contributing to his team's unbeaten run in the league. This performance helped Sabah earn a crucial point against a domestic rival.

As a result, Sabah maintained their position at the top of the league standings after eight matches, accumulating 20 points from six wins and two draws, two points ahead of second-placed Neftçi and third-placed Qarabağ.

McCarthy's recent displays mark a significant period in his career as he solidifies his role at his new club. His continued presence in the starting lineup and ability to complete matches highlight his development.

The young defender also garnered attention for scoring his first goal for Sabah in a UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund earlier that week, despite the team losing 2-1. This goal represented a notable achievement for him, particularly in such a prestigious tournament as he advances his career abroad.

Sabah's successful journey through all four qualifying rounds of the Champions League to reach the league phase has provided invaluable experience for their players, including McCarthy. This exposure could bolster his chances of receiving international recognition, as he has been named in Pitso Mosimane's preliminary Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming double-header against Kenya in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Being included in the preliminary squad is a crucial milestone for McCarthy as he seeks a spot within the national team, though consistency will be key to securing a position in the final lineup.

Currently, McCarthy's primary focus remains on helping Sabah sustain their strong form in the domestic league, with their next match scheduled against Turan Tovuz away on Friday, October 30.

Overall, his recent achievements, including a Champions League goal, regular match appearances, and a spot on the national team’s preliminary roster, indicate that McCarthy is making promising strides in his international career.
