VAR Drama in Soweto: Furious Pirates Coach Ouaddou Exposes The Truth Behind Disallowed Goal

In the Soweto Derby, Orlando Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1. However, head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou expressed his displeasure with his team's missed scoring chances and questioned the decision to disallow Oswin Appollis' goal.

On Saturday, October 31, 2026, at FNB Stadium, the much-anticipated Betway Premiership match took place. After a fierce struggle, Pirates were able to claim the bragging rights.

Even though the win was a huge boost for the Buccaneers, Ouaddou isn't convinced his team should have scored more goals and isn't sure the offside call on Appollis was right.

The Pirates coach told reporters after the game that he needed more time to think about the disallowed goal before making a decision.

We need to talk about the goal we scored if we're going to discuss the opportunities we lost. "I need to double-check, but I'm not certain it's offside," Ouaddou joked.

Fans discussing the match are sure to focus on the decision involving Appollis, which has added another talking point to an already eventful Soweto Derby, thanks to his remarks.

Nevertheless, Ouaddou refrained from leveling a conclusive accusation, stating that he required time to examine the incident in order to determine if the officials had made the right decision.

In addition to the disallowed effort, Ouaddou was worried that his team was missing a number of good scoring opportunities.

The Pirates came into the derby with a goal of beating their longtime rivals, but they were outplayed, especially in the first half.

Following an early goal by Yanela Mbuthuma, the Buccaneers were able to secure victory in the end thanks to a second-half goal by Tshepang Moremi. Kaizer Chiefs kept the game close with a response from Pule Mmodi.

Despite the win, Ouaddou is still of the opinion that his team needs to improve their finishing skills if they are to keep competing at a high level on the national and continental stages.

With tough games coming up, the Pirates coach has stressed time and time again that his team must improve its finishing.

Whether a team cruises to a victory or lets its opponents claw back into the game hinges on how often they convert scoring opportunities.

The Soweto Derby triumph is a major accomplishment for Pirates, but there have been additional talking points due to missed opportunities and Appollis' goal that was disallowed.

Based on the outcome, Ouaddou will be looking for his team to improve upon the areas that were lacking in the previous match.

Even though the fans are rejoicing over the derby win, the coach has made it clear that he isn't going to let their joy cloud his judgment on how to improve the team's performance moving forward.
