Sundowns Give Monnapule Saleng Another Chance as Cardoso Sets Clear Conditions

Mamelodi Sundowns have shown that they are not ready to give up on Monnapule Saleng, with the talented winger receiving another opportunity to prove his value after a difficult period away from the first-team picture.

Saleng, who had been frozen out following reported disciplinary issues, returned to action from the bench during Sundowns' 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout. His appearance marked an important moment in his attempt to rebuild his standing at the Tshwane giants.

While the result was the priority for Sundowns, Saleng's involvement attracted attention because questions had been raised about his future at the club. His return suggests that the technical team is willing to give him an opportunity to turn the situation around, provided he demonstrates the right attitude and consistency.

Head coach Miguel Cardoso addressed the winger's situation after the match, making it clear that the opportunity should not be mistaken for an unconditional return to regular action.

"We gave Saleng the opportunity to go over his faults and show consistency," Cardoso explained to the media. "If he becomes consistent, he will have more chances."

The coach's comments underline the importance of accountability within the Sundowns squad. Although Saleng has the ability to make a difference on the pitch, he will need to convince the technical team that he can meet the standards expected of a player representing one of South Africa's biggest clubs.

For Sundowns, keeping a talented player involved could prove beneficial, especially as the club continues competing across domestic competitions and managing the demands of a busy football calendar. However, competition for places remains intense, meaning Saleng cannot afford to rely solely on his reputation.

The winger must now use every opportunity to demonstrate his quality, contribute to the team's objectives and show that he can maintain the required level of professionalism. Coming off the bench against Gallants was a positive step, but earning more minutes will depend on what he delivers in training and during matches.

Cardoso's approach also sends a message to the rest of the squad: opportunities remain available, but players must earn the coach's trust through their performances and conduct.

For Saleng, the challenge is now straightforward. He has another chance to revive his Sundowns career, but the responsibility rests on him to make it count.

The question supporters will be asking is whether the winger can turn this opportunity into a fresh beginning and establish himself as a reliable option for the Brazilians.
