Sundowns Seek Revenge: Tashreeq Matthews Sends Strong Message Before Marumo Gallants Carling Knockout Rematch

Despite suffering a heartbreaking elimination last season, Mamelodi Sundowns winger Tashreeq Matthews has made his intentions known in the lead-up to Marumo Gallants' Carling Knockout Round of 16 match against the Brazilians.

Since Gallants eliminated Sundowns at the same point of the league last season, the next match is very meaningful for them. Reputation is not enough to ensure success in knockout football, as the outcome clearly shown.

But according to Matthews, Sundowns need to focus on the task at hand and come into the encounter with an attitude of winning.

What matters is that we play to win. Matthews gave the good news that they would be facing Marumo Gallants again, adding that they are determined to win the game.

In a league where a single bad game may kill a team's hopes of making it far, his words highlight the will of the Sundowns squad to advance.

Matthews Clarifies Sundowns' Goals

Matthews has one goal in mind, and one goal only: to ensure that Sundowns advance to the next round.

The winger's speed, mobility, and ability to pose a danger to opposing defenders from wide areas have made him a crucial attacking option for the Tshwane giants. The Gallants, who will be looking to replicate their success from last season, may need his help.

When there is an opportunity to compete for a trophy, Sundowns fans anticipate a fierce challenge from their squad.

Having said that, the Carling Knockout isn't like a league campaign in terms of the strain it brings. Being focused and making good decisions from the start is crucial since there isn't much wiggle space for bad results.

According to Matthews, the team is playing with a clear goal in mind and knows exactly what's on the line in this match.

Even Now, Marumo Gallants Is A Threatening Rival

Gallants have shown again and again that they can cause Sundowns problems in the knockout stages of football. Their previous season's elimination of the Brazilians at the same level demonstrated how a determined opponent may capitalise on a favorite's underperformance.

Sundowns can't afford to approach the meeting like any other mission because of their past.

Participating Gallants will have their own goals and aspirations, but they'll be energised by the chance to upset a long-standing national powerhouse.

Mental and tactical preparation will be of the utmost importance to Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso. In order to prevent Gallants from scoring, his players need to strike a balance between offensive prowess and defensive rigour.
