LIVE: ORLANDO PIRATES AND KAIZER CHIEFS FACE OFF IN HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SOWETO DERBY AT FNB STADIUM

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 31 OCTOBER 2026

South African football has its attention firmly fixed on FNB Stadium as Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs prepare to battle in the highly anticipated 186th edition of the Soweto Derby.

The two Soweto giants meet on Saturday afternoon in a crucial Betway Premiership encounter, with supporters from across the country eagerly following developments as the opening whistle approaches.

Defending champions Orlando Pirates enter the contest as one of the strongest teams in the competition. Abdeslam Ouaddou's men have enjoyed an impressive start to their league campaign, collecting 22 points from eight matches and establishing themselves among the leading title contenders.

The Buccaneers have recorded seven victories and one draw, demonstrating impressive consistency in both attack and defence. Their recent performances have also strengthened expectations that they could secure another important victory against their traditional rivals.

However, Kaizer Chiefs will be determined to disrupt Pirates' momentum.

Fernando Da Cruz's side have remained unbeaten in their opening eight league matches, although their campaign has been affected by several frustrating draws. Amakhosi currently have 14 points and will view Saturday's encounter as an opportunity to make a major statement.

Chiefs arrive with renewed confidence after defeating TS Galaxy 3-0 in the Carling Knockout Cup, with Wandile Duba producing an outstanding hat-trick.

Duba has been handed another opportunity to lead the attack, supported by Pule Mmodi and Mfundo Vilakazi. Mduduzi Shabalala and Lebohang Maboe will also be important figures in Chiefs' attacking approach.

Meanwhile, Pirates will rely on the attacking threat of Tshepang Moremi, Simphiwe Masilela and Yanela Mbuthuma, with Thalente Mbatha and Thapelo Mokobodi expected to play important roles in midfield.

The confirmed line-ups have added another layer of excitement to an already highly anticipated encounter.

Pirates are chasing another three points to strengthen their title ambitions, while Chiefs are desperate to demonstrate that they can compete with the defending champions.

Beyond the league standings, the occasion carries enormous emotional significance for both sets of supporters.

With bragging rights, pride and valuable points at stake, the 186th Soweto Derby promises another memorable chapter in South African football history.

Supporters will now be watching closely as the action unfolds at FNB Stadium.
