“Kaizer Chiefs Are No Longer the Mighty Amakhosi We Once Knew” – Baba Mthethwa

The reputation of Kaizer Chiefs as one of the largest football clubs in South Africa has been called into doubt by Baba Mthethwa. He argues that the team's ongoing failure to win trophies is causing its millions of supporters to feel frustrated.

Mthethwa is of the opinion that Amakhosi are no longer exhibiting the winning mindset that once gave them the reputation of being a formidable opposition in South African football. His words came after the team was defeated by Zambia's Red Arrows by a score of 1-0 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup contest. This result leaves the club with a lot of work to do in the second leg of the match.

In reference to the recent performances of the team, Mthethwa posed the question of whether or not the players had lost sight of the significance of winning games and providing success to their followers.

"Have they [Chiefs] forgotten that in the 26-letter alphabet, there is a W, and the W stands for winning?" he questioned.

He stated that the club's supporters are finding it increasingly difficult to accept the situation, particularly because of the high expectations that come with supporting a side as popular as Kaizer Chiefs. "Have they changed their minds about that?" he asked. One who is a fan of the Chiefs will find it challenging to accept this. After suffering a defeat at the hands of Red Arrows of Zambia on Saturday, more than five million players and fans of the club across the African continent and in the diaspora are reeling from the disappointment of the loss. "I have to say that the Red Arrows are not the most challenging team to compete against," Mthethwa said.

The strain that the players are under is brought to light by his statements, as the fans continue to demand greater performances and improved results. Fans of a club that has such a large following are likely to react strongly when the club's results are disappointing because they want to see their team compete for major honours.

In addition, Mthethwa expressed worry on an incident that occurred during the match that included two players from Kaizer Chiefs. He is of the opinion that the altercation was a concerning indication of the issues that are impacting the squad. "However, I witnessed two players from the Chiefs competing against each other from head to head." It was an indication of weakness on your part. According to him, "that was a sign to show that something has gone completely wrong within the Amakhosi, which is a team that is absolutely beloved."

Mthethwa acknowledged the historical significance of the club as well as the fortitude of its supporters, despite the criticism he had previously spoken. The power of the brand to garner support from people of all ages was one of the reasons he referred to Kaizer Chiefs as a "giant" in South African football.

On the other hand, he is of the opinion that the prestige of the club is no longer sufficient to sate the expectations of fans who have been waiting for years for the team to achieve regular success. "Kaizer Chiefs is a behemoth. There is a lot of support for Kaizer Chiefs. With regard to the support it receives from different generations, it is a brand that you can never, ever mistrust. On the other hand, Mthethwa came to the conclusion that generations, both old and new, are now experiencing the sorrow of not winning trophies.

There is a significant distinction between being a large club and acting like one, and his remarks have brought up an important point concerning this distinction. As a result of their long history, well-known brand, and devoted fan base, Kaizer Chiefs continue to be a prominent name in South African football. On the other hand, because there is a persistent demand for trophies, the team is required to produce results that are commensurate with its reputation.

However, regardless of whether Mthethwa's evaluation is overly harsh or only represents the exasperation of dissatisfied supporters, the message is unmistakable: Amakhosi must demonstrate improvement on the pitch in order to provide their followers with reasons to believe in the club once more.
