Doctor Khumalo Visits Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung for Blessings After New SAFA Appointment
South African football legend Doctor Khumalo has returned to Kaizer Chiefs’ Naturena headquarters to seek the blessings of club chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung following his appointment as vice-chairperson of the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) Technical Committee.
The visit represents a significant moment for the former Bafana Bafana midfielder, whose football journey has been closely connected to the Amakhosi family. Khumalo remains one of the most celebrated figures in the history of South African football, having built a reputation for his exceptional technical ability, creativity and contribution to the national team.
His decision to visit Motaung following the appointment also highlights the importance of maintaining relationships with the people who played influential roles in his career. For Khumalo, Naturena is more than just the home of Kaizer Chiefs; it is a place closely associated with his development and achievements in the game.
Motaung, widely respected for his contribution to South African football administration, has been central to Kaizer Chiefs’ identity since founding the club in 1970. His influence on generations of players has made him an important figure in the careers of many footballers who have represented the Soweto giants.
Khumalo’s new appointment at SAFA marks another important chapter in his involvement in the sport, allowing him to contribute to football development beyond his playing days.
SAFA president Danny Jordaan confirmed the appointment after the association’s newly elected National Executive Committee concluded its meeting in Sandton. Khumalo will serve as deputy to Technical Committee chairperson Jack Maluleke.
The committee has an important responsibility in shaping the technical direction of South African football. Its work includes contributing to coaching development, assessing national team performances, identifying talent and making recommendations concerning national team coaches.
Khumalo’s experience as a former international footballer, coach and analyst is expected to provide valuable insight as the association continues working to strengthen the country’s football structures.
The 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winner has also expressed gratitude to the people who supported his journey, including Motaung, Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza, Jordaan and his family.
His appointment comes at a time when South African football continues to focus on nurturing young talent, improving coaching standards and sustaining the progress made by its national teams.
For Kaizer Chiefs supporters, the visit to Naturena is a reminder of the enduring bond between the club and one of its most recognisable legends.
As Khumalo prepares to take on his new responsibilities, the support of influential figures in his football journey could provide encouragement as he begins this important assignment.
Ultimately, the former Amakhosi star’s challenge will be to translate his experience and passion into meaningful contributions that benefit South African football as a whole.
