Fernando da Cruz Backs Wandile Duba to Earn Future Bafana Bafana Call-Up
Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz believes young attacker Wandile Duba has the potential to represent South Africa at senior international level, but has challenged the promising forward to improve his consistency as he continues developing at the Soweto giants.
Duba has attracted attention with his performances for Amakhosi, showing glimpses of the talent that could make him an important player for both club and country in the coming years. At just 21, the attacker still has time to develop his game and establish himself as a regular contributor to the Chiefs first team.
Da Cruz is pleased with the youngster's progress and believes he possesses the necessary qualities to reach the highest level. However, the French tactician has emphasised that Duba must learn to maintain his performances rather than deliver occasional impressive displays.
“I am very happy for Duba; he is a young player, and so sometimes he has a lot of ups and downs. He must improve his consistency,” Da Cruz noted.
The coach's comments highlight both his confidence in Duba's ability and the areas where the young attacker still needs to improve. Consistency is often a significant challenge for developing players, particularly those attempting to establish themselves in a competitive first-team environment.
For Chiefs, helping Duba fulfil his potential could provide another attacking option capable of making a difference in domestic competitions. His continued development will depend on taking opportunities, making better decisions in important moments and delivering reliable performances.
Meanwhile, Duba's progress could eventually attract the attention of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, who will be looking for quality attacking options as South Africa continues building its national team squad.
However, international recognition is not guaranteed, and Duba must first demonstrate that he can perform consistently at club level.
For now, the focus remains on his development at Naturena. If he responds positively to Da Cruz's challenge, the Chiefs youngster could strengthen his chances of earning a future Bafana Bafana call-up.
