Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has reportedly unveiled his preliminary squad for South Africa's upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya, with a former Kaizer Chiefs player among those included in the selection.
The announcement comes ahead of two important encounters against Kenya, whose national team is coached by former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy. The matches will give South Africa an opportunity to collect more points and improve its chances of reaching the continental tournament scheduled for 2027.
According to a report published by Soccer Laduma on Friday, October 23, 2026, South Africa began its qualifying campaign positively last month by securing consecutive victories over Guinea and Eritrea. The results provided the team with an encouraging start as it continues its pursuit of a place at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Mosimane will now be looking to maintain that progress when his players meet Kenya in November. His preliminary selection reportedly features several footballers who were absent from the squad during the previous FIFA international break.
Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Lyle Foster are among the notable names included after missing the previous international window. Their availability could provide the coach with additional choices as he considers his tactical options for the upcoming fixtures.
Another player attracting attention is Sabah FK defender Aden McCarthy, who has reportedly received a call-up following an impressive achievement in European football. The defender recently scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against Borussia Dortmund, drawing further attention to his development and performances.
The upcoming fixtures will also bring added interest because Kenya are coached by McCarthy, who previously represented South Africa during his playing career.
According to the supplied report, the first meeting between the two nations is scheduled for November 13 at the Orlando Amstel Arena, before Bafana Bafana travel to Nairobi for the return encounter four days later.
Playing the same opponent twice within a short period will require careful preparation, tactical discipline and consistency from the South African side. Mosimane will want his players to make their opportunities count in both matches.
