Mamelodi Sundowns have reclaimed the top spot in the Betway Premiership standings after producing an impressive performance to defeat Durban City, with Thabang Matuludi scoring twice in a victory that strengthened Masandawana's title ambitions.

The Tshwane giants demonstrated their attacking quality throughout the encounter, with Matuludi's brace complemented by goals from Iqraam Rayners and Antonio Van Wyk. Jean Lwamba found the net for Durban City, but his effort was not enough to prevent the visitors from suffering defeat.

The result provides an important boost for Sundowns as the reigning South African champions continue their pursuit of another league title in a highly competitive domestic campaign.

Matuludi emerged as one of the standout performers of the match, finding the back of the net twice to help Sundowns establish control over their opponents.

His contribution highlighted the attacking options available to the technical team, with the midfielder demonstrating his ability to influence proceedings in the final third.

Scoring twice in a league encounter is a significant achievement, particularly for a player operating in a team where competition for places remains intense.

Matuludi's performance will also provide encouragement for Sundowns as they look to maintain consistency during a demanding season.

The team's ability to find goals from different players remains one of its major strengths, making it difficult for opponents to concentrate their defensive efforts on a single attacking threat.

Iqraam Rayners also made his contribution to the victory by getting on the scoresheet, further demonstrating the attacking depth within the Sundowns squad.

Antonio Van Wyk added another goal as Masandawana continued to apply pressure on Durban City.

The contributions from Rayners and Van Wyk ensured that Sundowns had multiple sources of goals, underlining the importance of teamwork in their pursuit of domestic success.

Although Jean Lwamba managed to score for Durban City, the visitors were unable to match Sundowns' overall attacking output.

Durban City will now need to assess their performance and work towards improving their defensive organisation ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

Reclaiming the top position in the Betway Premiership is an important development for Sundowns, who will be determined to maintain their place at the summit as the campaign progresses.

However, the competition remains demanding, and the team will need to continue collecting points consistently to strengthen its title challenge.

For head coach Miguel Cardoso, performances of this nature provide valuable momentum, particularly when several attacking players contribute to the scoreline.

Sundowns supporters will be encouraged by Matuludi's brace and the team's ability to secure a convincing victory.

The challenge now is to build on this result and maintain the consistency required to finish the season at the top of South African football.
