Orlando Pirates have officially confirmed the departure of assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi, bringing an end to his spell on the Buccaneers’ technical team as he prepares to take up a head coaching position at another club in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
The Soweto giants announced the development on Thursday, 22 October 2026, confirming that Ncikazi will leave the club to pursue a new opportunity that will see him take on greater responsibility in the dugout.
Ncikazi’s departure marks a significant change for the Pirates technical team, where he has worked alongside head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou in guiding the club through its domestic and continental campaigns.
The experienced tactician has been part of the coaching structure tasked with maintaining the Buccaneers’ competitiveness in South African football, contributing to the team’s preparations, tactical planning and overall performance.
His decision to accept a head coaching position represents another opportunity to establish himself in a leading technical role within the PSL, where competition among clubs remains intense.
Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza expressed the club’s appreciation for Ncikazi’s contribution and offered him the club’s blessing as he prepares for the next chapter of his coaching career.
“Mandla leaves with our gratitude and our blessing. His contribution to Orlando Pirates has been evident throughout his time with us,” Khoza said.
“We respect his wish to pursue this new opportunity and wish him success as he takes on a new responsibility.”
The statement underlines the club’s recognition of Ncikazi’s service and its willingness to support his decision to pursue a fresh challenge.
For Ncikazi, the move presents an opportunity to lead a team in his own capacity, implement his football philosophy and demonstrate his managerial abilities in one of the continent’s most competitive leagues.
His experience at Orlando Pirates could prove valuable as he transitions into a head coaching role, with expectations likely to be high at his new club.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers will need to adjust their technical structure following his exit as they continue working towards their objectives for the season.
Although his departure brings an end to his time as an assistant coach at the Soweto outfit, Ncikazi will remain a familiar figure in South African football as he embarks on his next professional challenge.
