Young goalkeeper Muhammad Naqeeb Bowers has found a new home after joining ABC Motsepe League Gauteng side NB La Masia following the end of his five-year spell with Kaizer Chiefs.

The 19-year-old shot-stopper is embarking on a new chapter in his football career as he looks to continue developing and gain further experience in senior football.

Bowers came through the development structures at Kaizer Chiefs, progressing through the Gauteng Development League before featuring in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC), where he continued to build his reputation as a young goalkeeper.

His time at Amakhosi also brought team success. He was part of the Chiefs side that won the DDC title in the 2024/25 season, an achievement that marked an important moment in his development.

After spending five years with the Soweto giants, Bowers has now moved on in search of fresh opportunities at NB La Masia, a club competing in the ABC Motsepe League in Gauteng.

For a young goalkeeper, the transition from development football to the senior game can be an important step. Regular competition and exposure to different challenges can help players improve their decision-making, command of the penalty area and overall consistency.

Bowers will now have the opportunity to continue his progress at a new club while seeking to establish himself and make an impression in his new surroundings.

His departure also highlights the movement of young players through South African football, with development graduates often seeking opportunities at clubs where they can take the next step in their careers.

Although his time at Kaizer Chiefs has come to an end, the goalkeeper’s journey is still at an early stage. His experience in the club’s development system and involvement in a title-winning DDC campaign will form part of the foundation he takes into his next challenge.

Bowers will now look to make the most of his opportunity at NB La Masia as he continues pursuing his ambitions in the game.
