Enzo Fernández Reaffirms His Desire To Return To River Plate In The Future

Enzo Fernández Makes Emotional River Plate Promise After Manchester City Move

Argentine World Cup winner Enzo Fernández has sent an emotional message to River Plate supporters, declaring that he is determined to return to his boyhood club at some point in his career.

The midfielder, who recently joined Manchester City from Chelsea, has made it clear that his move to English football has not weakened his connection to the Argentine giants. Despite beginning a new chapter at the Etihad Stadium, Fernández insists that representing River Plate again remains one of his biggest personal ambitions.

Speaking during an interview with Argentine journalists Gastón and Esteban Edul, the 25-year-old midfielder reaffirmed his desire to return to Buenos Aires.

“I want to return to River at some point, I've said it several times,” Fernández explained.

“I'm going to return, I'm sure. It's something I really want!”

His comments are likely to excite River Plate supporters, who have continued to follow the career of the midfielder since his departure from Argentina.

Fernández developed through River Plate's youth system before earning opportunities in the senior team. His performances helped establish him as one of Argentina's promising midfield talents, eventually attracting interest from European clubs.

He made his senior breakthrough at River before moving to Portuguese side Benfica in 2022. His impressive performances in Europe, combined with his influential role in Argentina's 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph, accelerated his rise to international recognition.

He subsequently joined Chelsea in January 2023, becoming one of the club's most significant midfield acquisitions.

Now at Manchester City, Fernández has reached another important stage in his career. However, his latest comments demonstrate that he has not forgotten the club that helped shape his footballing journey.

The midfielder also explained that his desire to return is connected to winning more trophies and experiencing the River Plate environment for a longer period.

He made it clear that he stands by his previous statements and genuinely wants to fulfil that ambition.

Although his declaration has generated excitement among River Plate supporters, Fernández was careful to explain that a return to Argentina is not an immediate move.

He acknowledged that he has a long contract at Manchester City and still has plenty to accomplish in England.

“Today, I'm here with a long contract at Man City. There's still a long way to go, but it will happen,” he added.

His comments suggest that he is committed to his current responsibilities while keeping the door open for a future reunion with River Plate.

Manchester City invested heavily to secure his services from Chelsea, with the reported transfer fee reaching £125 million. The Argentine midfielder is expected to play an important role in the club's plans.

For River Plate supporters, Fernández's statement is more than a simple expression of affection. It is a strong indication that he still sees a return to the club as part of his footballing future.

There is no confirmed date for such a reunion, and his immediate focus remains on establishing himself at Manchester City.
