Rulani Mokwena is not slowing down. The South African coach has guided Pyramids FC to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Smouha in the Egyptian League Cup, making it 14 wins in a row since he took charge.

The match was tight from the start. Smouha made it difficult, but Pyramids found a way through in the second half. A well-taken goal by 23-year-old midfielder Ahmed Atef Cat sealed the points on the road. It was enough to keep the winning run alive and move Pyramids top of their League Cup group with six points from two matches.

This result means Mokwena has won every single game since arriving at the Egyptian club. Fourteen matches, fourteen victories across the league, cup and continental competitions. It is the kind of start that turns heads.

Pyramids have now moved past the famous AC Milan team of 1992-93, who began their season with 11 consecutive wins. Only Bayern Munich’s recent run of 16 straight wins under Vincent Kompany sits higher as a modern European benchmark. For a side that already lifted the CAF Champions League in 2025, this form shows they mean business again this season.

Mokwena, who previously enjoyed success with Mamelodi Sundowns back home, has quickly won over players and supporters in Egypt. His calm approach and clear ideas on the pitch have helped the team stay consistent even when games get tough, as this one against Smouha showed.

The win also keeps Pyramids in a strong position in the League Cup after they earlier beat Al Qanah 3-2. Every point matters in a busy calendar, and the South African tactician is making sure his side takes them.

Next up, Pyramids face El Daklyeh in the Round of 32 of the Egypt Cup this weekend. After that, a big league clash with rivals Al Ahly awaits following the international break. If the current form holds, both matches will be must-watch.

For now, the focus remains on the remarkable run. Fourteen wins on the bounce is special anywhere in the world. In Egypt, with the pressure that comes with being one of the top clubs, it is even more impressive. Mokwena and his players have earned the praise coming their way.

South African football fans will be watching closely. Another successful chapter for one of the country’s leading coaches is unfolding far from home, and the results speak for themselves. The winning streak is still going, and Pyramids look ready to keep adding to it.
