Not looking good for Orbit College as winless run leaves them in the relegation zone

Orbit College are not looking for any comfort right now. After nine matches in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the Rustenburg side still sit in the relegation zone with no wins to their name.

The club’s winless start continued over the weekend when they played out a goalless draw with Venda FC at Olympia Park Stadium. Venda themselves remain without a victory from nine games and prop up the table on just two points. Orbit have managed four points from their nine matches and finished the weekend in 15th place.

That tally comes from four draws and five defeats. Their goal difference stands at minus six, having scored only four goals while conceding ten. Nearly a third of the season has already passed, and the side is still searching for that first three points.

The current struggle follows a difficult campaign in the Betway Premiership. Orbit College were relegated last season after finishing bottom of the 16-team top flight. They have since released several experienced players, including former Orlando Pirates midfielder Ben Motshwari and defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele, as they try to rebuild for life in the second tier.

While Orbit and Venda remain stuck at the bottom, other clubs have made better starts. Lerumo Lions beat University of Pretoria 3-1 to move into second place, and Hope FC jumped to fourth after a 3-0 win over Gomora United. The Bees picked up their second win of the season by beating Midlands Wanderers 2-0, easing some of their own early worries.

For Orbit College, the picture is more worrying. Another relegation would see them drop into the ABC Motsepe League, a step further away from the top flight they left only months ago. With matches still to come, the side must find a way to turn draws into wins and start climbing the table before the gap becomes too wide.

Right now, the numbers show a team that has yet to get going. Nine games in and still without a victory, Orbit College are deep in the relegation fight and need results quickly if they hope to avoid another disappointing season.
