Free To Leave In January: Look At The R50 Million Sundowns Maestro Who Is Officially Packing His Bag

Cardoso Makes Plea As Sundowns Face Losing Key Midfielder Marcelo Allende

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso is hoping the club's management can convince Marcelo Allende to extend his stay at Chloorkop, with the Chilean midfielder approaching a crucial decision about his future.

Allende has become an important figure in the Sundowns squad since arriving from Uruguayan side Montevideo City Torque in August 2022. However, with his current contract reportedly running until the end of this season, the possibility of losing him has become a growing concern for the reigning South African champions.

Cardoso has made it clear that he would love to keep the midfielder at the club, praising not only his performances on the pitch but also his professionalism and influence within the dressing room.

Cardoso Full Of Praise For Allende

Speaking after Sundowns' 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals, the Portuguese coach expressed his admiration for the 27-year-old.

Cardoso described Allende as one of the most consistent players in his squad and highlighted the midfielder's commitment to training and matches.

The coach revealed that Allende regularly covers approximately 12 kilometres during matches, demonstrating the work rate and discipline that have made him valuable to the team.

Cardoso also praised his personality, describing him and his family as wonderful people.

He made it clear that Sundowns would do everything possible to keep the midfielder for many more years.

According to the coach, players like Allende help establish the standards, character and attitude that define the club's environment. He also believes the Chilean makes those around him better footballers.

The Final Decision Rests With Allende

Despite Cardoso's strong desire to retain him, Sundowns cannot make the decision on the player's behalf.

Allende previously indicated that he was concentrating on his final year at the club and had not been speaking to other teams.

The midfielder has also remained focused on delivering performances whenever he is selected, insisting that supporting his teammates is equally important when he is not playing.

His contract situation has nevertheless attracted attention, with reports suggesting that clubs outside South Africa could be interested in securing his services.

The possibility of leaving as a free agent at the end of the campaign could make him an attractive option for potential suitors.

A Significant Loss For Sundowns?

Since joining the Brazilians, Allende has established himself as a dependable midfielder capable of contributing defensively and offensively.

His energy, technical ability and understanding of Sundowns' playing style have made him an important part of the squad.

Losing him would therefore create a challenge for Cardoso and the club's technical team, particularly as they continue competing for domestic and continental honours.

For now, Sundowns supporters will be hoping that the club's hierarchy can reach an agreement with the midfielder before his contract expires.
