Former Mamelodi Sundowns player Peter Ndlovu got off to a good start as a coach, leading Scottland FC to a Zimbabwean championship in his first match.

After last weekend's CAF Champions League elimination, Norman Mapeza resigned from his job; the club swiftly hired the former Zimbabwe international to replace him.

As soon as Ndlovu was named temporary head coach, he was given the chance to steer the squad in their domestic campaign. Scottland beat CAPS United 1-0 on Thursday, his first assignment, so it was a good ending.

As Emmanuel Jalai scored the game's lone goal, Ndlovu earned a crucial win in his first outing coaching the first team.

The former Sundowns great was proud of his team's grit and cohesion despite the lack of dominating play that produced the desired outcome.

After the game, Ndlovu spoke about how happy he was to have scored a perfect game in his first game with the technical team.

As reported by Soccer24, Ndlovu expressed his happiness at having won the first time around.

One of the most encouraging things he took away from the game was the team spirit and positive attitude displayed by his players. "What I am happy about today is, perhaps not the performance itself, but the way these boys were together today, in everything," he added.

Although his squad was under intense pressure for the whole of the match, Ndlovu was proud with the way his players handled the strain.

The majority of the game, he said, was spent under pressure.

As he starts his coaching career with the reigning Zimbabwean champions, the former Zimbabwe international will take heart from the success.

After a stellar playing career that included a stint with Mamelodi Sundowns, Ndlovu is remembered by many. He became known as one of Zimbabwe's most prominent football stars and played for his country on an international level.

Another chapter in his football career has opened with his transition into coaching, and he will now be responsible for assisting Scottland in their quest to remain competitive in Zimbabwean football.

A strong start might solidify his job and provide him a chance to showcase his technical skills, even if his appointment is now on an interim basis.

While Ndlovu celebrates his first win, Scottland fans are crossing their fingers that he can keep winning in the next matches.
