The win keeps Usuthu in impressive form in the Betway Premiership, extending their winning run to five straight league matches. It was a well-taken goal from the league’s leading goal scorer, Thando Ngwenya, in the second half that sealed the three points for the hosts to consolidate their place in the top three. Zwane has commended his players for their competitive spirit.
"In short I would say we have soldiers, we have players that can take the pain. What was key for us was we're playing at home we needed to get maximum points so credit to the players' hard-fought win and the continuity we left off in terms of grinding results at home," said Zwane
The win moves AmaZulu to 22 points after nine matches, maintaining third place, four points above Milford FC and eight points clear of fifth-placed Kaizer Chiefs. But Zwane says they will continue to focus on the job at hand and not get carried away by this good run. The good run also brings loud calls of being involved in a title race
With six wins in a row in all competitions now, Zwane and his team can start to believe in the good run they are on. But he’s also reflecting on last season, when he feels they dropped a lot of points in critical phases of the game. This is something Zwane feels they are recovering this season.
As much as Zwane and the club’s hierarchy don’t want to put their players under pressure to talk about the league title race and being serious contenders, he says their target for next season is clear: they must feature in the CAF Interclub competitions.
