Stone Cold Steve Austin’s signed, match-worn knee brace from 1999 sold for $225,700 at Heritage Auctions, according to ProWrestling-Collectibles, which lists it as the most valuable Austin item ever sold at auction.

The brace was Lot 81947 in Heritage’s Fall Sports Catalog Auction, the same auction where Conrad Thompson’s WrestleMania III Intercontinental Championship belt sold for a record $716,750 on Saturday. The final price includes Heritage’s 22 percent buyer’s premium.

Heritage’s listing describes the piece as a circa 1999 DonJoy knee brace, 16 inches tall, signed by Austin in gold paint pen with the date “5-8-99” written nearby. A WWF authentication sticker sits near the date, and the lot includes a WWE letter signed by Linda McMahon along with letters of authenticity from WWE, Heritage, PSA/DNA and Beckett. The top button has broken off, and three of the four Velcro fasteners still work.

Austin’s previous knee brace sales

The price is nearly double the $115,900 another Austin knee brace sold for at Heritage in May. Heritage’s listing calls that sale the highest price ever paid for a knee brace.

The brace Austin wore in his No Holds Barred match against Kevin Owens on Night 1 of WrestleMania 38 sold for $58,045 in a Fanatics auction in March. Saturday’s sale brought almost four times that amount. The WrestleMania 38 match on April 2, 2022, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, was Austin’s first match in 19 years.

The overall record for wrestling memorabilia belongs to Hulk Hogan’s boots from the first WrestleMania, which sold for $1,037,000 at Heritage earlier this year.

Analysis:

Austin’s braces have gone from a $58,045 sale in March to $115,900 in May to $225,700 this weekend. That is a big jump in seven months, and it shows how much collectors are willing to pay for match-worn Austin gear.

Heritage has set two wrestling memorabilia records this year, with Hogan’s boots and the WrestleMania III Intercontinental Championship belt, and now has Austin’s top sale as well. Expect more top-name gear to hit the market while prices are this high.
