WWE has announced that John Cena will make his return on next week’s Raw, but what will he do on the show in Brooklyn?

After retiring from in-ring competition last December, John Cena has made sporadic appearances on WWE television, both serving as the host of WrestleMania 42 and then also appearing at Backlash in Tampa.

On tonight’s WWE Raw show, it was confirmed that Cena would be returning to Raw next week in Brooklyn, but what will he get up to in his TV return?

An update on the John Cena Classic

When Cena appeared at Backlash, he promised to deliver an announcement that would shake the WWE Universe.

What it ended up being was the announcement of the ‘John Cena Classic’, which would pit main roster names against NXT stars similar to the John Cena’s Last Match edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

No additional information has been revealed about the John Cena Classic since, though it is reportedly set for December, so Cena will likely be delivering an update next week.

Announce induction into WWE Hall of Fame

Last year, WWE announced that Stephanie McMahon would be the first inductee into the 2026 Hall of Fame class at the WrestlePalooza event in September, which was the earliest an inductee had been announced.

With Cena return to TV next week, it could see the Undertaker interrupt him to announce him as the first inductee just as he did with Stephanie and AJ Styles this year.

Announce Rey Mysterio’s retirement

It was recently reported that there had been some backstage chatter about Rey Mysterio potentially retiring from in-ring competition in 2027.

With 2027 now just months away, WWE could use Cena’s return to announce the next big retirement tour for a legendary performer next week in Brooklyn.

Relight fire under Gunther

Outside of IYO SKY, no top star has had a worse 2026 than Gunther, which feels insane to say about the man who retired Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles.

Less than a year after retiring Cena, Gunther now finds himself feuding with Danhausen in a rivalry that has led to a lot of criticism and confusion from fans.

Next week’s episode of SmackDown is being taped the same night as Raw, so SmackDown stars will be in Brooklyn for the show, so Gunther could easily make an appearance on the show to go face to face with the man he retired, and hopefully regain some momentum.
