Manchester United’s 4-1 defeat to Como is starting to look better in hindsight.
Cesc Fabregas’s squad maintained their impressive European form with an astonishing 9-1 victory over the French team Lens tonight.
By doing so, the Italian side matched the record for the largest Champions League victory ever.
The only other two instances of eight-goal wins were Liverpool’s 8-0 thrashing of Beşiktaş in 2007 and Real Madrid’s 8-0 annihilation of Malmö FF in 2015.
One of the goalscorers for the Italian sensations, Nico Paz, displayed a T-shirt in honor of Tenerife’s Jesus de Miguel, who tragically passed away at the age of 30 during an on-field incident.
Como now sits in fourth place in the Champions League standings, positioned between Barcelona and Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Man United finds themselves in 17th place, though their recent 3-2 victory over Roma has sparked a glimmer of hope for reaching the knockout stages.
Como is also holding fourth place in Serie A, just five points off the top of the standings.
With talents like Nico Paz, Martin Baturina, and Lucas De Cunha, the club boasts a roster filled with young, skilled players playing captivating football under Fabregas.
Now, Manchester United’s 4-1 defeat to Como seems to be better appreciated by their supporters.

Social media was awash with United fans recognizing the prowess of Como and retracting their earlier grievances.
One fan commented on X: “We held this formidable Como team to just 4 goals. Underappreciated by Carrick.”
A second user remarked: “Carrick really managed to limit this Como super team to only 4 goals.”
A third wrote: “This essentially shows Como giving Michael Carrick and Manchester United their flowers without explicitly stating it. Sorry, Manchester United, but you really weren’t that bad against Como.”
Perhaps Bruno Fernandes has had a change of heart as well?
The playmaker publicly pointed fingers at the manager following the defeat and was then benched for the subsequent match against Chelsea.
However, after the victory over Roma, Fernandes addressed any ongoing speculation regarding a rift between himself and the manager.
He stated to Amazon Prime: “The club needed that win, the players needed that win; it’s something that we all needed as a group. We’ve been working hard to escape this situation together.
“It’s been challenging; there have been plenty of rumors in the media, many falsehoods concerning events at this club involving me and the manager, like the supposed clear-the-air discussions. Nothing like that occurred.
“The manager made the decision to bench me against Chelsea because I wasn’t performing, and that’s reasonable; everyone thought it was a punishment for my comments, and if it was, it was deserved.
“The manager is the one who makes the calls; I have to accept them and move forward.
“This doesn’t alter my confidence in the manager or the staff, nor my belief in every player at this club, and it certainly doesn’t change my aim to win every single game moving forward.”
