According to Metro on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde may be willing to leave the club in January, with Manchester United reportedly among the possible destinations.
The 23-year-old is said to be unhappy with his limited role under manager Hansi Flick and is considering a move to get his career back on track.
Balde joined Barcelona at eight after developing in Espanyol’s youth system and made his senior-team debut in 2021. Since then, he has played 172 matches in all competitions and helped the club win seven trophies, including three La Liga titles.
His role has diminished this season. All four of his appearances have come as a substitute, leaving him behind Joao Cancelo and Xavi Espart in the contest for the left-back spot.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona’s coaching staff have concerns about parts of Balde’s game, including his concentration and his reading of pressing situations. Ahead of the club’s 6–1 win over Alaves last weekend, Flick said the defender needed to rebuild his confidence.
Balde is reportedly frustrated by his lack of minutes and had hoped Flick would give him a clearer explanation of his place in the squad. Metro says he is now more open to offers from other clubs, particularly those in the Premier League.
Manchester United are monitoring his situation as they look to strengthen at left-back. The club tried to add to the position in the summer but did not complete a signing. Luke Shaw’s injury has further limited their options, with Diogo Dalot filling in and academy player Harry Amass also available.
A January move could reportedly cost around €40 million (£33 million). Balde has 18 months left on his Barcelona contract, leaving the club with a significant decision about his future.
