According to a report by Metro on Sunday November 8, 2026, former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy has warned Arsenal's Premier League title rivals that Mikel Arteta's side could become even more dangerous as the season progresses.
Murphy believes other clubs should be worried about Arsenal's impressive start to the campaign, particularly because the Gunners have moved six points clear at the top of the table without consistently playing their best football.
Arsenal strengthened their position in the title race on Saturday after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hull City at the Emirates Stadium.
Martin Odegaard scored the only goal of the encounter in the 72nd minute, ensuring that the Premier League champions collected another important three points.
The victory took Arsenal to 27 points from their opening 10 league matches, having won nine of those games and lost just once.
Their advantage at the top increased after Manchester City suffered a surprising 3-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
It was City's third consecutive defeat in the Premier League, leaving them six points behind Arteta's team.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Murphy described Arsenal's points tally as particularly impressive and suggested that their rivals should be concerned about the possibility of further improvement.
"These numbers here, 27 points after ten games, that club normally wins the title," Murphy said.
"I think what's worrying for everyone else is they've got this amount of wins, this amount of points, and they haven't really played that well."
The former England international acknowledged that Arsenal had produced some outstanding performances this season, particularly against Chelsea, but felt that several of their other victories had come despite not reaching their highest level.
"Maybe in the Chelsea game they were outstanding but they've just got over the line other than that," he added.
However, Murphy believes Arsenal's current performances should not be viewed as their maximum potential.
He expects Arteta's players to improve as the campaign progresses and warned that the Gunners could become even more difficult to stop if they find another level in their performances.
"There's more to come from this team, make no qualms about that," Murphy said. "I think they're in a wonderful position and a really great place."
Murphy's comments will be encouraging for Arsenal supporters, especially considering how competitive the Premier League title race is expected to be.
The Gunners have demonstrated an ability to win matches even when their attacking performances have not been particularly convincing.
Their narrow victory over Hull was another example, as they struggled to turn their dominance into goals before Odegaard eventually found the breakthrough.
Arsenal's squad depth has also been an important factor in their strong start, with Arteta able to introduce quality players from the bench when his team needs fresh energy or a tactical change.
Former England international Steph Houghton also praised the work Arteta has done in building the squad, pointing to the club's stability and summer recruitment as major reasons behind their impressive position.
"It's obvious how much quality Arsenal already had in their squad and with Arteta being there for a number of years and they've added two or three more players this season," Houghton said.
She also highlighted the importance of having players such as Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino available as second-half options.
"When you have an environment that is really stable and with Arteta, you know what jobs you need to do as a player," she explained.
