Manager rejects Manchester United offer as he eyes Jose Mourinho's job at Real Madrid

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Saturday November 7, 2026, former France national team manager Didier Deschamps has reportedly rejected an approach from Manchester United as he sets his sights on becoming the next manager of Real Madrid.

The 58-year-old is believed to be interested in returning to club management but has no intention of taking charge of the Premier League giants at Old Trafford.

According to a report by Santi Aouna, Manchester United are exploring managerial options as they prepare for a possible change in the dugout following Michael Carrick's disappointing start to the season.

Carrick has come under intense pressure after United's poor results, with the club hierarchy reportedly beginning the search for a replacement.

The former Middlesbrough manager was close to losing his position last week but was given additional time to turn things around. However, the defeat to Chelsea has further increased doubts about his future at Old Trafford.

United have reportedly considered several candidates, including Julian Nagelsmann, Eddie Howe and Antonio Conte, as they attempt to identify the right manager to lead the club forward.

Deschamps was the latest name linked with the position, but reports from France suggest that he has rejected the opportunity because of his interest in the Real Madrid job.

The Frenchman reportedly remains keen on managing the Spanish giants and is monitoring the situation surrounding Jose Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Mourinho has reportedly come under pressure despite guiding Real Madrid to eight consecutive victories across all competitions. Those results include wins against Barcelona, Villarreal, AS Roma, Sevilla and RB Leipzig.

Despite the impressive run, questions remain about Madrid's position in the league table, while their performances continue to attract attention.

Deschamps is therefore reportedly hoping that an opportunity could emerge at the Spanish club, which explains his reluctance to accept Manchester United's approach.

The former France coach has considerable experience at the highest level of football, having guided his country to the 2018 FIFA World Cup title in Russia and the final of the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

His reported decision represents another potential setback for Manchester United as they continue searching for a manager capable of restoring the club's competitiveness.
