According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, November 2, 2026, Everton claimed a narrow 1-0 victory against Newcastle United at St James' Park, with Thierno Barry finding the net to secure another important win over the Magpies.
The Toffees recorded their second victory over Newcastle in just five days after Barry's 49th-minute goal settled the Premier League contest. Everton had previously beaten the same opponents 3-1 in their Carabao Cup encounter four days earlier.
The visitors made a positive start to the game but struggled to turn their early attacking intent into clear scoring chances.
Newcastle came close to taking the lead in the 17th minute when Dan Burn connected with a corner kick at the far post. However, his header drifted just wide of the goal.
Everton subsequently threatened through Merlin Rohl, who fired over the crossbar, while Barry missed a good opportunity after miskicking from close range when he had the chance to put his team ahead.
The Magpies gradually gained confidence and almost scored through Joelinton, whose powerful effort narrowly missed the target with five minutes remaining in the first half.
Everton's Harrison Armstrong also failed to hit the target during added time, meaning the teams went into the break without registering a shot on target.
The deadlock was finally broken four minutes after the restart when Tyrique George's effort proved too difficult for Hornicek to handle. Barry reacted quickly to the goalkeeper's mistake and converted the rebound to give Everton the advantage.
It was the striker's eighth goal in all competitions this season and his third successive scoring appearance against Newcastle.
Following the breakthrough, Everton continued to put pressure on their opponents as Hornicek produced crucial saves to deny Branthwaite, Dewsbury-Hall and O'Brien from adding to the visitors' lead.
Newcastle attempted to respond by committing more players forward, with Elanga almost finding an equaliser after meeting the ball at the far post. However, his effort travelled across the goal line before Everton's defence intervened.
Ramsey then failed to hit the target with a volley from 20 yards, while Pickford made an important late save with his legs to keep out Wissa's attempt.
The Magpies' disappointing performance was made worse in the closing stages when Ramsey received a second yellow card, resulting in his dismissal deep into stoppage time.
The defeat leaves manager Matthias Jaissle facing increased scrutiny, with Newcastle now having lost four of their last five games. The result also saw them fall to 13th place in the league standings.
Meanwhile, Everton enjoyed a significant improvement in their position, climbing seven places to seventh after ending a run of nine consecutive Premier League away matches without a victory.
