According to a report by London Evening Standard on Monday November 2, 2026, Erling Haaland could consider leaving Manchester City if the club receives severe punishment over their 115 alleged financial rule breaches.
His father, Alf-Inge Haaland, has seemingly hinted that his son's future at the Etihad Stadium could depend on the outcome of City's ongoing legal battle.
The Norwegian striker has enjoyed another impressive start to the Premier League campaign. He has scored nine goals in his opening nine appearances, maintaining his position as the division's leading goalscorer.
However, Haaland failed to find the net during City's 1-0 home defeat against Brighton over the weekend. The result allowed Arsenal to move above the defending champions following their 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
Meanwhile, City are still awaiting their punishment after an independent commission found them guilty of 115 breaches of financial regulations dating back to 2009. The club remains involved in a lengthy appeals process, with several possible sanctions being discussed.
Potential punishments include relegation and a significant points deduction. Such consequences could encourage several important players to leave, including Haaland.
Speaking about his son's future, Alf-Inge referenced Juventus' previous punishment for match-fixing. He insisted that everyone should wait for the conclusion of City's appeal before making assumptions about what could happen.
He also explained that City remain confident about presenting strong evidence to defend themselves. According to him, Erling is currently more concerned with playing football and concentrating on his performances rather than worrying about matters outside the pitch.
Arsenal have previously been linked with a potential move for the 26-year-old forward. Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in securing his services.
Haaland finished eighth in the 2026 Ballon d'Or rankings, with Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane claiming the prestigious award.
