Madueke responds when asked if he would swap shirts with Mac Allister after he tried to send him off

Arsenal forward Noni Madueke has delivered a cheeky response after being asked whether he would have exchanged shirts with Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister following their heated confrontation during Sunday’s Premier League meeting at Anfield.

The two players were involved in an angry exchange in the 79th minute of the encounter, which Arsenal won 1-0 to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League table.

The confrontation began after Mac Allister fouled Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and appeared to make a comment while the Norwegian was on the ground before tapping him on the head.

Madueke immediately intervened, approaching the Liverpool midfielder and sparking a heated exchange between the pair. Mac Allister subsequently went to ground holding his face, prompting referee Andy Madley to take action.

The official showed yellow cards to Mac Allister and Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber but decided against booking Madueke, who was already on a caution.

VAR also examined the incident and supported the referee’s decision, concluding that the Arsenal forward had not committed an act of violent conduct.

According to a report by GOAL on Monday, November 2, 2026, Madueke addressed the confrontation during an interview with Viaplay after the match, where he was asked whether he would have swapped shirts with Mac Allister.

The England international responded with four words, saying: “I wish I did.”

Madueke also suggested that the Liverpool midfielder deliberately attempted to provoke him into doing something that could have resulted in a red card.

He explained: “He’s obviously clever, he tried to bait me into getting a red card there, but obviously not.”

The Arsenal forward admitted that he was anxious while VAR officials reviewed the incident because he understood that their interpretation could have produced a different outcome.

He added: “In my head I was thinking, ‘Oh, it’s possible with VAR; it’s about whoever interprets it.’ I don’t know what they’re thinking. But thankfully it wasn’t.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal secured a valuable victory at Anfield through Kai Havertz’s first-half strike. The German forward converted Declan Rice’s low delivery in the 16th minute after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker made an error.

The result took Arteta’s side to 24 points from nine Premier League matches, giving them a three-point advantage over their closest challengers in the title race.

Madueke, who has scored twice in 11 appearances across all competitions this season, could become increasingly important in the coming weeks as Arsenal manage Bukayo Saka’s absence through injury.
