According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Thursday October 29, 2026, Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko is expected to remain sidelined until at least January 2027 as he continues to recover from an ongoing shin injury.
The Slovenian international has not featured for United since the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton, with his latest setback extending his absence at a difficult time for the club.
Sesko initially sustained the injury in May 2026 during a match against Liverpool, forcing him to miss the final three games of the season. He subsequently missed all six of Manchester United’s pre-season fixtures before returning to action in September.
The 23-year-old made six appearances after regaining fitness and scored twice against Everton and Sabah. However, complications with his shin injury emerged again, forcing him to withdraw from Slovenia’s international squads and miss United’s subsequent matches.
According to the report, medical staff have now recommended that Sesko rest for approximately two months to allow the injury to heal properly. The decision is expected to keep him out for the remainder of 2026, with January the earliest possible timeframe for his return.
Sesko’s absence represents a significant setback for United, who have struggled to find a reliable centre-forward in his absence. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have been asked to operate out of position, while Joshua Zirkzee has been unable to establish himself as a regular starter.
The situation has also raised questions about Manchester United’s recruitment strategy, with the club having failed to sign another striker despite Sesko missing pre-season and facing ongoing fitness concerns.
With the team struggling for results, his extended absence will put further pressure on the available attacking players and the coaching staff to find a solution.
