€10m Star Ready to Complete Chelsea Transfer in January

According to a report by Football Transfer on Friday October 23, 2026, Chelsea youngster Kendry Páez is reportedly prepared to leave Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window after struggling to establish himself since joining the Premier League club from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle.

The 18-year-old midfielder completed a €10 million move to Chelsea in 2025, but he has yet to make his senior debut. His development has stalled, raising questions about his immediate future.

Páez initially joined Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg on loan, but his spell proved disappointing. He made 21 appearances across all competitions before Chelsea recalled him in January, seeking another opportunity elsewhere.

The Ecuador international subsequently joined Argentine giants River Plate on loan, but his situation failed to improve. River Plate terminated the temporary agreement in August, sending the youngster back to Chelsea.

Since returning to England, Páez has been restricted to Chelsea’s Under-21 team, with limited prospects of earning promotion into Xabi Alonso’s senior squad under the current circumstances.

Alonso made the situation clear when questioned about the midfielder in September, confirming that Páez was not included in his first-team plans and suggesting that would not change during the campaign.

“At the moment, he's not part of the first-team squad,” Alonso explained before firmly rejecting the possibility of a change, adding: “No, no, he's not part of the plans.”

Transfer reporter Nicolo Schira has now reported that Páez wants to leave Chelsea when the January transfer window opens, potentially seeking a club where he can receive regular first-team opportunities.

The youngster previously attracted considerable attention after impressing in Ecuador’s top division with Independiente del Valle. However, questions surrounding his attitude and professionalism have emerged since his European move.

His performances during the Strasbourg loan spell also attracted criticism from sections of the French media, making his next career decision particularly important for his long-term development.

According to recruitment analytics company SciSports, Spanish side Getafe could represent the most suitable destination for Páez. Newcastle United rank second in its assessment, recording a Club Fit Score of 80.

Italian clubs Bologna and Lazio, alongside Portuguese giants Porto, have also been identified as potentially suitable destinations for the Ecuadorian midfielder.

However, Chelsea must decide whether to approve a permanent departure in January or arrange another loan move to help the talented youngster regain momentum and develop his career.
