According to a report by Barca Universal on Saturday October 24, 2026, Ronald Araujo has refused to rule out a return to Barcelona after admitting that his future at Liverpool will depend on the English club's decision regarding his loan deal.
The Uruguayan defender, who left Barcelona last summer, has reportedly impressed during his time in England, rebuilding his confidence and rediscovering his influence on the pitch.
However, Liverpool are yet to decide whether to activate the €55 million purchase option included in his loan agreement, leaving uncertainty over where he will play next season.
Speaking to The Times, as reported by SPORT, Araujo acknowledged that the final decision is not entirely in his hands.
“It’s too early to talk about it. I’d like to thank everyone for the support they’ve shown me, because this has helped me a great deal. Whether or not I stay at Liverpool is not entirely up to me,” the defender explained.
According to the report, Araujo has made 11 appearances under manager Andoni Iraola and scored twice, with his performances suggesting that the change of environment has benefited him.
Liverpool could make his move permanent by activating the reported €55 million clause. However, if the club decides against signing him, a return to Barcelona remains a possibility, given that he is still under contract with the Catalan side.
Beyond his footballing future, Araujo also opened up about the mental health challenges he experienced before taking a break from the game. The defender revealed that he had struggled with anxiety and depression, stressing the importance of speaking honestly about personal difficulties rather than keeping everything bottled up.
“Taking this break was the best decision I’ve ever made. Today I feel good, I’m happy and I’m rediscovering the joy of playing football,” he said.
His comments suggest that his immediate priority is maintaining his well-being and continuing to perform at a high level while the uncertainty surrounding his future remains unresolved.
