Barcelona Defender Offered to AS Roma by Superagent As January Exit Looms

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Saturday October 24, 2026, according to reports, Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde has fallen in manager Hansi Flick's hierarchy, and his agent Jorge Mendes is now exploring possible destinations for Balde's transfer during the January transfer window.

As cited by SPORT, the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero states that Mendes has extended an offer to AS Roma for the Spain international. Roma is reportedly considering adding a left back to their roster when the transfer window reopens.

An option to make the transfer permanent is being considered by Roma as they evaluate a potential loan deal until the end of the season. The deal would let the Italian club assess Balde's abilities before making a financial commitment, and Barcelona would still have a chance to get a transfer fee.

Roma are looking at a number of possibilities to strengthen their defense under Gian Piero Gasperini's management. Any possible agreement is still up in the air, though, because the talks surrounding Balde allegedly haven't moved into a formal approach.

The defender's situation is being monitored by more than just Roma. Juventus have also been mentioned as a possible suitor; a loan deal with a buyout clause was previously considered.

According to reports, Barcelona is valued at around €50 million. This could make negotiations more difficult, especially for clubs that aren't ready to commit to such a large permanent transfer just yet.

Concerns regarding Balde's future have been fueled by his diminished role under Flick. Even though he was a key cog in Barcelona's first team last season, the 22-year-old has seen his playing time cut short due to the increased level of competition.

With Joao Cancelo and young defender Xavi Espart joining the team, Flick now has more options on the left flank, which has increased the uncertainty for Balde regarding his position.

Regardless, the BCN alum has plenty of time to mature since his contract doesn't expire until June 2028. As a result, the Catalan club might not have to sell him in the next transfer window.

But if Balde and his reps don't get much playing time, he may decide to temporarily leave. While Barcelona considers his long-term future in the upcoming summer transfer window, he could get regular football with a loan move.
