Atletico Madrid are looking to make Jonathan David a permanent signing after an encouraging start to his loan period, according to a report from FootballTransfers on Saturday 24 October 2026.
The Spanish side have a 25 million euro buy option on the 26-year-old, having brought him in after an unsuccessful start to his first season with Juventus.
The Canadian only scored 9 goals for the Italian giants in 46 games after joining on a free from Lille. But he has started to click into gear since moving to Atletico Madrid, scoring three goals and providing two assists in five La Liga games. However, Atletico have yet to make their final decision.
Sky Sport Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that they are willing to exercise their buy option. "Atletico Madrid are willing to trigger the 25m buy options for Jonathan David.
"26-year-old is comfortable at the club and willing to stay. Still has a contract at Juventus until 2030. Talks will happen but nothing is decided." David’s eagerness to stay in Madrid could make any deal easier.
SciSports, a data analytics company, also say that Atletico are a good fit for the Canadian international. Their Career Advice tool shows that the Spanish side have a Club Fit score of 85.
Inter Milan and Roma have a score of 87, but Juventus may not want to help their rivals in Serie A by selling David.
Atletico’s 25 million euro buy option may be an appealing offer for David. His transfer value is estimated to be 33.3 million euros, after reaching 61.8 million euros during his time at Lille. Juventus signed him on a free so selling him could still be a good financial move.
