EPL: 'So bad' - Schmeichel names disgraceful Man United star after 2-0 defeat to Chelsea

According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday November 1, 2026, Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has launched a furious attack on Lisandro Martinez following the club's disappointing 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, describing the defender's performance as disgraceful.

The Red Devils suffered another setback at Stamford Bridge on Saturday after failing to take advantage of their opportunities in the first half before Chelsea secured victory through goals from Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer.

Martinez attracted much of the criticism following his involvement in Chelsea's opening goal and his subsequent red card, which left Manchester United with ten men for the closing stages.

Rogers broke the deadlock in the 50th minute after capitalising on poor defending from the Argentine centre-back. Schmeichel was particularly unhappy with the space Martinez allowed the Chelsea attacker, insisting that a defender with his experience should have handled the situation much better.

Speaking after the match, the former Manchester United goalkeeper placed the responsibility for the defeat firmly on Martinez.

"I place this entirely on Lisandro Martinez’s shoulders.

"This is an absolute disgrace how he performed in this game. What he exhibited today, honestly, leaves me speechless," Schmeichel said.

The former Denmark international also questioned Martinez's defending for Chelsea's first goal and the incident that resulted in his dismissal.

Manchester United's problems increased in the 64th minute when Martinez was sent off for striking Wesley Fofana with his forearm inside the penalty area.

The incident resulted in a penalty for Chelsea, which Palmer calmly converted to double the home side's advantage.

Schmeichel was also unhappy with Martinez's reaction after receiving his red card, questioning the defender's attitude as he walked off the pitch.

"Then he walks off the pitch shaking his head as if he’s done nothing wrong. So poor," the former goalkeeper said.

His criticism also extended beyond the Chelsea encounter, as he referred to Martinez's previous comments about his teammates and Manchester United. Schmeichel suggested that those remarks had given the impression that the Argentine was trying to force a move away from Old Trafford.

However, his suggestion remains an opinion and does not confirm that Martinez is actively seeking an exit from the club.

The defeat has further increased the pressure on Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, whose team have now gone nine matches without a victory.

Carrick's side are struggling near the bottom of the Premier League table, with their poor run of results raising further questions about the team's performances and the manager's future.
