NGA 1-0 VEN: Flamingos Beat Venezuela to Reach FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Semi-Finals

According to a report by Flashscore on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Venezuela in their quarter-final encounter in Morocco.

Captain Azeezat Oduntan scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to send the Nigerian youngsters into the last four of the competition and keep their hopes of winning the tournament alive.

The Flamingos approached the contest with attacking intent, looking to take control of the encounter from the opening stages. However, they struggled to convert their early opportunities against a determined Venezuelan defence marshalled by goalkeeper and captain Valeria Rebanales.

Tosin Rafiu, Mary Dunstan and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi were among the Nigerian players who tested the opposition's defence with attempts on goal, while Oluebube Umejiaku also threatened as the West Africans searched for an early breakthrough.

Venezuela, meanwhile, showed that they were capable of causing problems for the Nigerian defence, with Ariana Ojeda and Migleydys Bolsegui creating opportunities as both sides battled for the opening goal.

Nigeria's Favour Nkwocha received the first booking of the encounter in the 24th minute after being shown a yellow card. Despite the attacking efforts from both teams, neither side managed to find the back of the net before half-time.

The second half continued in a similar fashion, with the Flamingos maintaining their search for a breakthrough while Venezuela remained organised at the back.

Nigeria pushed forward in pursuit of a winning goal, but the South American side continued to frustrate their opponents with their defensive discipline. However, the Nigerian youngsters eventually found the breakthrough in the closing stages of the encounter.

With just a minute remaining in regulation time, Oduntan stepped forward to take a penalty in the 89th minute and confidently converted to give Nigeria a crucial 1-0 lead.

The late strike proved decisive as the Flamingos held on during the remaining minutes to secure victory and eliminate Venezuela from the competition.

The result confirms Nigeria's qualification for the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, taking them a step closer to lifting the trophy in Morocco.
