According to a report by Football London on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is expected to remain confident despite a late injury concern involving Pep Chavarria ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
Chavarria was expected to start Chelsea's previous league match against Everton but withdrew from the matchday squad after suffering a minor injury.
His absence provided Jorrel Hato with an opportunity to impress, and the Netherlands international delivered an encouraging performance as Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Hato helped Chelsea record their first Premier League clean sheet in nine months and contributed offensively, producing an excellent run down the left before delivering a cross that allowed Pedro Neto to open the scoring.
The 20-year-old will be hoping to retain his place against Tottenham if Chavarria remains unavailable.
Hato has experienced difficulties establishing himself under Alonso since joining Chelsea. A costly error during the draw against Hull City last month resulted in him being dropped for the subsequent defeat to Brentford.
However, his performance against Everton has strengthened his case for further opportunities as Chelsea prepare for another important London derby.
Alonso is expected to provide an update on Chavarria's fitness during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
The Chelsea manager has additional selection concerns in goal following Emiliano Martinez's fractured jaw, which required surgery after the victory over Everton.
Martinez sustained the injury during the match, forcing Chelsea to introduce Mike Penders under difficult circumstances.
The Belgian goalkeeper impressed after coming on and is expected to make his first Premier League start when Tottenham visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Alonso praised Penders' response and emphasised the importance of having dependable players throughout his squad.
