Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has congratulated Nigeria's Flamingos after the team defeated Japan to win the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, describing their achievement as a historic moment for Nigerian football.
According to a report published by Daily Post on November 7, 2026, Ajibade celebrated the young players in a post on her official X account shortly after their 2-1 victory in the final in Rabat, Morocco.
“WORLD CHAMPIONS! You made history, and you made all of Nigeria proud. I'm so proud of every one of you. The future of Nigerian football is here. Congratulations, Flamingos,” the Super Falcons captain wrote.
The Flamingos secured the title with goals from Awawu Bashiru and Oluebube Umejiaku. Bashiru opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a looping effort before Umejiaku extended Nigeria's advantage two minutes into the second half.
Japan responded through Fuki Ito in the 80th minute and pushed for an equaliser, but Nigeria maintained its lead until the final whistle.
FIFA's official match report published on November 7 confirmed Nigeria's 2-1 victory and described the result as a landmark achievement, making the country the first African nation to win the U-17 Women's World Cup. The Confederation of African Football also celebrated the victory, noting that it was Nigeria's first title in the competition.
The triumph was particularly significant for the Flamingos, who had never previously won the tournament. Their victory also marked the first time an African women's team had claimed a FIFA world title at any level.
Ajibade's message added to the celebrations surrounding the team's achievement, with the senior national team captain recognising the young players as an important part of Nigeria's football future.
