World Cup Final And Third Place Results After Nigeria Defeat Asian Giant

According to a report by Flashscore on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have made history by winning the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after recording a 2-1 triumph over Japan in the final. Meanwhile, Korea DPR finished third following an outstanding 6-0 victory against Brazil in the third-place playoff.

The Nigerian team achieved a remarkable milestone at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco, where they defeated Japan to lift their maiden title in the tournament. Their achievement also made Nigeria the first African nation to win the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, marking a significant moment for women's football on the continent.

The final witnessed an entertaining battle between both countries, but the Flamingos displayed impressive determination, confidence and attacking quality to overcome their Asian opponents.

Nigeria took the lead in the 39th minute when Awawu Bashiru produced an effort from outside the penalty area. Although Japan's goalkeeper, Kou Kadowaki, attempted to deal with the shot, she failed to keep the ball out as it crossed the goal line, handing Nigeria a valuable advantage before the interval.

The Flamingos returned from the break with even greater determination and increased their lead just two minutes into the second half. Oluebube Umejiaku found the back of the net in the 47th minute to make it 2-0, leaving Japan with a difficult task in their attempt to recover.

However, Japan refused to surrender and managed to bring themselves back into contention when Fuki Ito scored in the 80th minute. Her effort reduced Nigeria's advantage to 2-1 and created a nervous finish to the encounter.

Despite the pressure from their opponents during the closing minutes, the Nigerian players remained organised and disciplined at the back. They successfully protected their lead until the final whistle, confirming their historic championship victory.

Elsewhere, Korea DPR secured the bronze medal after delivering a devastating performance against Brazil in the third-place match. The Asian side scored six unanswered goals to record a convincing 6-0 victory.

Kim Won-sim gave Korea DPR an early advantage in the 12th minute before Ri Ui-gyong increased their lead ahead of half-time. Following the restart, Ri Ye-rim added another goal, while Ri Ui-gyong scored again to complete her brace.

Yu Jong-hyang and Ri Kyong-im subsequently found the net to complete the emphatic victory and condemn Brazil to a fourth-place finish.

Following the conclusion of the competition, Nigeria emerged as champions, Japan finished second, Korea DPR claimed third position, while Brazil ended the tournament in fourth place.

Nigeria's achievement was particularly impressive considering how their campaign began. The Flamingos suffered a 2-1 defeat against Poland in their opening group-stage fixture but responded positively by winning their subsequent matches against Puerto Rico and Korea DPR.

They continued their impressive journey with victories over Mexico in the round of 16, Venezuela in the quarter-finals and Brazil in the semi-finals before defeating Japan in the final.

The Nigerian side therefore recorded six consecutive victories after their opening-day setback, completing an extraordinary turnaround to become world champions.

Their triumph will remain an important moment in the history of African women's football, as Nigeria have finally delivered the continent's first-ever FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup title.
