NGA 1-0 JPN: Three Best Players For Nigeria As They Lead At Halftime

According to a post on The Super Falcons official X account on Saturday, 7th November, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos are 45 minutes away from a historic lead in the U-17 Women’s World Cup final. At the break in Rabat, they sit 1-0 up against Japan after a solid first half. Three players stood out above the rest and gave the team the edge.

Oluebube Umejiaku

Oluebube Umejiaku was a constant danger. She kept finding space in and around the Japanese box and forced the defence into mistakes. She should have put Nigeria ahead earlier. A couple of good chances fell her way, and she was unlucky not to score. Every time she got the ball, Japan looked nervous. Her movement pulled defenders out of position and created room for others. Without her pressure, the game might have stayed locked at 0-0 for longer.

Queen Joseph

Queen Joseph did the dirty work and still found ways to help in attack. She was excellent at the back. Japan tried to play through the middle and down the sides, but Joseph was always there to cut out passes and win the ball. She made important tackles and headed clearances when needed. At the same time she pushed forward and joined the attacks. Her energy set the tone. When Nigeria needed someone to stay focused and fight for every ball, Joseph delivered.

Awawu Bashiru

Awawu Bashiru got the goal that separated the sides. Late in the first half she finished a well-worked team move. The build-up was sharp. Players moved the ball quickly, created an opening, and Bashiru was in the right place to put it away. That strike took her tournament tally to three goals. It was the kind of calm finish Nigeria needed at that moment. The whole team celebrated, and the lead gave them something solid to protect.
