According to a report by Metro on Friday, October 23, 2026, former England striker Alan Shearer has backed Chelsea to defeat Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge this weekend, while predicting victories for Arsenal and Manchester City in their respective Premier League fixtures.
Shearer believes Chelsea's recent improvement under Xabi Alonso could help them secure all three points against their London rivals. He highlighted the contribution of midfielder Moises Caicedo, whose performances have strengthened the team's midfield and improved its overall balance, particularly alongside Jordan Henderson.
"I was impressed with Caicedo. Chelsea are looking a more well-rounded team and I think Caicedo’s played a huge part in that, he’s made the difference," Shearer said, praising the midfielder's growing influence on Chelsea's performances.
Despite Tottenham's recent positive results, Shearer remains unconvinced by their overall displays. He welcomed James Maddison's return to action and praised the midfielder for scoring following his comeback. He also noted Dejan Kulusevski's late appearance and the positive reception he received from supporters.
"Spurs did all right. Great to see Maddison back and scoring a goal. Kulusevski came back in for the last few minutes, got a good reception. I still didn’t think they played great, despite getting a good result. So, I’m going to go Chelsea home win."
For Arsenal's encounter with Everton, Shearer expects the visitors to adopt a defensive strategy in an attempt to frustrate Mikel Arteta's team. However, he believes Arsenal have enough quality to break through their opponents' defence and claim victory, despite concerns surrounding Bukayo Saka's fitness after an apparent thigh injury.
Shearer has also predicted a victory for Manchester City against Aston Villa. Although he acknowledged the impressive work Unai Emery has done at Villa, he expects Pep Guardiola's side to demonstrate their quality and collect maximum points.
Meanwhile, Shearer anticipates a draw between Liverpool and Brighton, pointing to Brighton's attacking threat and Liverpool's defensive uncertainties. He also expects Manchester United to share the points with Bournemouth, a result that could increase pressure on manager Michael Carrick.
Elsewhere, Shearer predicts Newcastle United will defeat Crystal Palace, Brentford will overcome Hull City, and Leeds United will secure victory against Sunderland. He expects the matches between Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest, as well as Coventry City and Fulham, to finish in draws.
His predictions provide an insight into the potential outcomes of this weekend's fixtures, with several teams expected to face challenging tests as the Premier League campaign continues.
