According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Nigeria U-23 head coach Eric Chelle has extended invitations to two new players based in the Czech Republic ahead of the Olympic Eagles' upcoming 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The two players, Emmanuel Godwin and Victor Samuel, who are currently playing for the Czech Republic top-flight club Pardubice, have been contacted by the Franco-Malian tactician over their availability for the crucial two-legged encounter.
Both players reportedly confirmed their readiness to represent Nigeria in the qualifiers as Chelle continues to strengthen his squad with foreign-based talents.
Godwin is a versatile player who can operate as a right-back, left-back or winger.
He is known for his pace and confidence on the ball, while Samuel is primarily a forward but is also capable of playing on the wings.
The report further stated that both players have featured in every game for their club this season.
Their invitations will increase the number of foreign-based players expected to join the Olympic Eagles, who have already commenced preparations in Nigeria for the qualifying fixtures.
Chelle is also expected to make significant changes to his initial squad, with as many as 18 players reportedly set to be dropped from the home-based contingent to create room for foreign-based invitees.
The former Mali national team coach initially invited 31 home-based players to camp ahead of the encounter against DR Congo.
The first leg is scheduled to take place at the TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi on November 13, 2026, while the return leg will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on November 17.
Nigeria will be hoping to overcome DR Congo over two legs to advance to the final qualifying round of the 2027 U-23 AFCON in Egypt.
The competition will also determine Africa's representatives at the men's football tournament of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
