According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Tottenham Hotspur secured a memorable 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, ending the hosts' six-game unbeaten run at home and recording their first away win of the campaign.
The visitors earned only their second league victory in 37 visits to Stamford Bridge, with Mathys Tel scoring late to seal the points after a costly mistake by Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders and Cole Palmer's dismissal left the home side with 10 men.
Both teams entered the London derby after winning their previous matches, although Tottenham's victory over Coventry represented their first league triumph of the campaign. The visitors looked comfortable in possession during the opening exchanges, while Chelsea attempted to exploit mistakes in their opponents' build-up play.
Chelsea created the first significant opportunity when Palmer curled an effort towards the top corner, forcing Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to tip the ball behind. Mohamed Kudus responded for Spurs but fired wide from a similar position.
Tottenham gradually grew into the contest, with Omar Marmoush testing Penders with a direct effort. Chelsea finished the first half more positively, as Kinsky parried Jordan Henderson's attempt from inside the penalty area before collecting Pedro Neto's low drive.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Tottenham enjoying possession but struggling to create clear chances. Neto had an opportunity to break the deadlock shortly after the hour mark, but his effort from a dangerous position went straight at Kinsky.
The breakthrough eventually arrived through a disastrous error from Penders. The Chelsea goalkeeper failed to deal with a Tottenham corner, punching the ball backwards into his own net to hand the visitors the lead.
Chelsea's situation deteriorated further when Palmer received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Conor Gallagher, leaving the hosts with 10 players for the closing stages.
Tottenham capitalised on their numerical advantage three minutes before the end of normal time. Tel carried the ball forward into Chelsea's half, went past Maxence Lacroix and struck a low shot into the bottom corner beyond Penders.
The result lifted Tottenham to 12th place in the Premier League standings, providing a significant boost after their difficult start to the season.
